Fantasy photography is a style of photography that is set in a fictional scene with fictional characters. It can fallow conceptually be modeled after a book or movie or be created by the artist! There are very few limitations or rules when it comes to fantasy photography it really is just an image that makes you feel like it's out of a story or out of this world of possibility. The fun part is that it's not! This is the reason why I fell in love with fantasy photography.
It is so much more than just taking a picture. There is a whole new level of creativity that goes on. Sometimes that is creating a character out of thin air and giving them a new story to act out frame by frame. Other times it's a character that we all know and creating their world/story come to life. You could also take that beloved character and making something new by blending there fictional world and our world together to give that character a whole new life or story!
Think of it like Halloween on steroids. When you're a kid you're excited to dress up as your favorite character and go house to house getting candy. As we get older Halloween becomes less about the candy and more about dressing up and being someone we aren't just for fun. Why do we have to limit that fun creative costume-wearing person to only one time of year?
The fact of the matter is we don't! It's okay to dress up in silly costumes to have some fun let your hair down and be someone or something your not. So the next time you find your self board put on those clothes that don't feel quite you do some crazy makeup maybe ware a necklace as a head pice and take some photos with your phone you might just be surprised how much fun fantasy photography can be!
